Senior News — In April, ‘Laughing Matters’

By now, we’re sure you have laughed out loud (or at least cracked a smile) at the April humor edition of Senior News, “Laughing Matters,” which celebrates the importance of what cartoonist/philosopher Walt Kelly said in his famed comic strip, “Pogo,” 76 years ago. “These days, a little levity is needed to get through the day.”

This month’s issue contains philosophers, clowns, dystopian AI visions of the future, laughter yoga, dogs, gags, Earth Day, letters, The Poem, E.B. White and more. Hope you’ve enjoyed it so far.

LOOK AHEAD! A quick word on what’s coming next in Senior News:

  • IN MAY, our crack medical team will offer a checkup on theHealth of Humboldt. In an assessment of “Health Care & Aging in Humboldt” a year ago, our contributors found concern for staying health and obtaining needed and timely medical care — ironic, since Humboldt is one of the environmentally healthiest places on Earth to live. But as a remote and far-flung rural county, 250+ miles from the world-class medical resources of the Bay Area, accessibility and timely care are sometimes a challenge for many Humboldters. We revisit these issues in May. If you’d like to weigh in on health care in Humboldt, please send letters to the editor and other submissions (400 words max) to tpease@humsenior.org no later than April 12 (that’s next weekend!)
  • JUNE includes Father’s Day, and Mother’s Day comes in May, so this month we will honor our parents and others who raised and formed us. Share stories of your parents — funny, profound, poignant — by May 12 (or sooner): 400-500 words, plus photos to tpease@humsenior.org.
